  • "Grizzly" was an expert as a guide, leader, marksman, and interpreter with Native Americans. He spent years of his life working for the American Fur Company but as the decline of the fur trade happened he ventured into a hired gun. He fathered nine children by two different Native American women.
He is most well known for taking down a Grizzly with his Bowie knife but, in the melee, he lost a few fingers. Hence his nickname "Grizzly".
